Find your flavour at Fleet Food Festival this weekend

Fleet Food Festival kicks off this Saturday 23rd June and promises to be a sumptuous event for all the family.

In its fifth anniversary year, the festival has been extended to span the entire weekend of 23th and 24th June. The two-day festival is still free to enter and offers a wide variety of activities.

A feast of a food market

Over 75 stallholders are expected to pack the food market with an array of tempting treats. There will be a strong international flavour with Caribbean and Spanish street foods, Nepalese and Japanese food, Indian, Thai and even Tibetan offerings. There will also be plenty of sweet delights with fine chocolates, handmade marshmallows, award-winning fudge and American inspired brownies all available.

A range of pop up bars will ensure you don’t go dry with traditional West Country ciders, English sparkling wine and even ice cream cocktails on offer.

Cookery Masterclass & Tastes Theatre to inspire you

A busy schedule of demonstrations from expert chefs, cooks and bakers are sure to get your taste buds going. Tickets can be bought on the day for £2 for each session or you can buy a ticket in advance for £10 for all sessions. Look out for Adam Fargin, Head Chef at The Wild Carrot at The Four Seasons on the Saturday afternoon or learn how to cook some Persian delights with Sisi Ryder, chef proprietor of The Phoenix Inn, Hartley Wintney on the Sunday afternoon.

Music while you munch

Sit back and relax as you enjoy live performances from bands and singers including rock, pop, soul, funk and jazz duo Supergreek; folk and rock from The Kindred Spirit Band; local singer-songwriter and future star Lilianne as well as The Elvetham Heath Choir.

There will also be live dance performances from the Fleet Indian Community and Kala the Arts.

Cars and craft

Saturday is the Universal Classic Cars Car Show of classic cars and supercars. If you are a motor-lover then go along and admire over 20 supercars and classic cars parked by The Views. You can even speak to the owners and vote for your favourite car.

Sunday sees a range of artisan craft stalls from The Hart of Craft join the show so it could be the perfect time for a bit of shopping for yourself or friends.

Have your say on the future of Fleet in the Fleet Neighbourhood Plan Consultation

The Fleet Neighbourhood Plan Pre-Submission Questionnaire is now open for comments until 15 June 2018. It provides local residents of Fleet with the opportunity to have your say on planning policies that will shape future development in the local area.

Neighbourhood plans are important documents which carry legal weight. Once approved, the policies contained are used to decide whether planning applications are approved. They should ensure that a community gets the right types of development, in the right places.

Over many months, a group of volunteers and Fleet Town Councillors have been developing a draft version of a Fleet Neighbourhood Plan with input from local organisations and voluntary groups.

Open for consultation

Fleet Town Council have now opened a consultation on a Pre-Submission version of the Fleet Neighbourhood Plan. It is a chance for all Fleet residents to comment on the draft and the important local issues contained in it.

You can comment on three key areas:

  1. Ensuring the Vibrancy and Vitality of the Town Centre

Fleet’s population is growing, placing increased demand on the town centre to provide cultural and leisure facilities. The Town Centre part of the Plan presents a vision for a vibrant “Civic Quarter”. This will provide the facilities needed for local residents and attract visitors to the area.

  1. Conserving our local area

All areas of the country have been tasked with building more housing in order to cater to growing demand. The Fleet Neighbourhood plan proposes that any new development within the Fleet Town Council area, and in the Conservation Areas, needs to be sympathetic to the local character in scale, style and density.

3. Protecting our green spaces

Fleet’s green spaces are a huge asset to residents. The Fleet Neighbourhood Plan looks at how to protect and enhance green spaces and the woodland nature of the area.

Online questionnaire ready for completion

A questionnaire has been produced for residents to complete. It includes a summary of the policies that are being proposed and asks residents to agree or disagree. You can read the complete version of the Pre-Submission Fleet Neighbourhood Plan on the Council website or view a hard copy. Hard copies are available in the Fleet Town Council Offices, Fleet Library or at The Harlington.

The consultation closes on 15th June 2018 so you still have a few weeks to have your say.

Help! What to do when your property buyer pulls out

Selling your property can be a stressful process. Even when you have accepted an offer, you can’t rest easy. Existing rules mean that prospective buyers can change their minds and pull out at any point until contracts are exchanged. This can leave you financially out of pocket – with solicitor’s fees – particularly on any property you might be looking to buy on the back of your sale, as well as with significant stress and heartache. They don’t even have to give you a reason why.

If you are the one that receives that dreaded phone call, here’s what to do when your buyer pulls out:
  1. Don’t panic

    Selling your property is stressful and emotional. When a buyer pulls out it is frustrating. But it isn’t the end of the world. If they weren’t committed to the purchase then ultimately it is better to find out sooner rather than later.

  2. Ask your estate agent why

    The buyer is under no obligation to give you a reason – but out of courtesy, most will if they can. Finding out their reason can be really helpful. For example, if it turns out to be something to do with a survey or a legal issue you can try and negotiate or at least be prepared for it to come up again with your next buyer. It may even be something you can rectify yourself or with the help of your solicitor.

    If it turns out to be a personal issue – such as a job or relationship change, then you can be safe in the knowledge that it wasn’t your fault. There was nothing you could have done to change the situation and no reason to believe it would happen again.

  3. Talk to your estate agent about what next

    Usually, your estate agent will get your property straight back on the market, reactivating it on Rightmove, Zoopla etc. They will also ring round any other previously interested parties to let them know the property is re-available and to see if they are still interested or in a position to move forwards.

    If you were planning to purchase a property on the back of your sale your estate agent should advise their estate agents about what has happened. They will ask them to be patient and do everything on your behalf to try and ensure you don’t lose the property you wanted.

  4. Be patient

    It’s easy to say – and much harder to do. But rest assured that a professional estate agent will be as keen to sell your property as you are. They will work hard to ensure your sale gets back on track and is ready to proceed again asap.

With Christmas Day fast approaching we wanted to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

2017 has been another busy year for us at Check 4 Houses thanks to our fantastic clients. Over the past 12 months, we have saved our clients an astounding £248,000 when compared to standard agency fees. That’s an average of over £4,000 per sale. What would you do with the extra £4,000? Our single biggest saving for a client was £10,526 (excl VAT). We sold properties of all shapes and size during the year, with the most expensive sale at £735,000.

After investigating the matter with the vendors and neighbours it turned out the two houses next door were trying to get permission to convert their front lawns into driveways, but one of the main service providers was not giving permission for a ‘box’ to be moved. Due to a personal contact, we were able to contact the service provider and get this authorised, so the work could be done. Once this was completed, the issue was resolved and a sale proceeded very quickly.

Getting into the festive spirit: Christmas events across Hart and Rushmoor

Christmas is just 6 weeks away and there is a packed programme of festive Christmas events to enjoy across Hart and Rushmoor.

Christmas in Aldershot

The Christmas events in Aldershot kick off this Saturday 18 November, starting with the Christmas lights switch-on. An afternoon of entertainment begins at midday, including children’s fun fair rides, live music and much more. The Princes Hall panto stars will join Father Christmas to light up the town at 4.45pm. The following Saturday sees the turn of The Wellington, with their Christmas Lights switch-on and Santa’s grotto opening. Children can visit Santa for free on Saturdays and Sundays in December, as well as Friday 22 December. Check out the website for times and further details.

Christmas fairs and celebrations

Various Christmas fayres will be running in the Wellington Centre and on Union Street on 1, 2, and 9 December. 9 December is the Aldershot Community Christmas Celebration, with lots of entertainment in the town centre during the day. Activities include Children’s rides, free face painting and the Rotary Christmas float with Santa. School choirs and local groups will be performing live on stage.

The following two Saturdays also feature special events. Light up Aldershot Day takes place on Saturday 16 December. Saturday 23 December is Aldershot Day of Merry Music, complete with Carols in the Bandstand.

Christmas in Farnborough

Farnborough also has a packed schedule of Christmas events, starting with their Christmas lights switch-on this Saturday 18 November. There will be an afternoon of free family fun and activities from midday on a stage outside Debenhams. The regular craft fair on Queensmead will also be running. The following weekend sees the Princes Mead shopping centre Christmas Lights switch-on, with another afternoon of family fun with Father Christmas and the Princes Hall panto stars. The Princes Mead Father Christmas grotto is open from 11 am to 3.30 pm every weekend from Sunday 26 November up until 23 December.

Fleet Christmas Festival & Nutcracker Trail

The Fleet Christmas Festival takes place on Wednesday 29 November from 3 pm – 9 pm.  Over 100 stalls will be available offering a fabulous variety of gifts and crafts, as well as a scrumptious selection of food and drink. Kids will be entertained with the free children’s craft marquee and fun fair attractions. You can enjoy live music from local choirs as well as the return of the amazing Giant Snow Globe and the Christmas lights switch on.

The new Nutcracker Trail kicks off on Saturday 2 December and aims to bring a buzz to Fleet this Christmas. Ten Nutcrackers will be located around Fleet and you can use the Nutcracker trail brochure to complete the trail, submit your entry in the special Nutcracker post boxes in the Hart Shopping Centre and The Harlington and be entered into the prize draw to win an iPad Mini. On the launch day itself, there will be live music, street entertainment, and lots more fun. Parking will be free to coincide with Small Business Saturday and help support local retailers.

Yateley Christmas market

The Yateley Christmas market takes place on Saturday 25 November 2017 at Church End Green in front of the Dog & Partridge. It will run from 3.30 pm to 6.30 pm. During the afternoon/evening, there will be carol singing, stalls and fairground rides, pork roast and much more. The Town Mayor will switch on the Christmas lights. Free parking will be available at Yateley School.

Hart District Council has opened its latest consultation on its draft Corporate Plan. The plan sets out the Council’s vision and priorities for the next five years and they are asking all local residents for feedback.

4 key priorities

The draft Hart Corporate Plan sets out 4 key priorities, which are to achieve:

  1. A thriving local economy
  2. A clean green and safe environment
  3. Healthy communities and people
  4. Becoming a more efficient and effective Council

The strive for efficiency comes as no surprise as councils, like many other organisations and companies, are under pressure to do more with less. The draft plan sets out the key actions that will be taken to achieve these four priorities. They include some significant investments such as creating a new secondary school for the district. The plan also touches on accommodating additional housing development for affordable homes, to assist the 1,320 (August 2017) people who are currently on the housing register.

This includes information on the plan itself as well as how to have your say using their online form. The consultation is open until 4pm on 31 October 2017 so you have 7 days left to add your thoughts.
